BCSN PLAYERS OF THE WEEK - JANUARY 12, 2021 BCSN MEN/WOMEN PLAYERS OF THE WEEK - JANUARY 12, 2021 No!  This is not a misprint!!!  The BCSN Women's Players of the Week from January 5 were not just simply cut and pasted to the January 12 selection.  The two women had another week of outstanding performances to repeat the honor with the Black College Sports Network.  The Men's nominees were highlighted by a triple-double and a 30-point double-double. Large Schools Men Shaun Doss, Jr. , a red-shirt junior guard from Marion, Arkansas, led the University of Arkansas at Pine-Bluff to a victory in their only game this week.  In the 91-82 victory versus Alabama State on Saturday, January 9, Doss led the Golden Lions with a 30 point double-double.  In 38 minutes of action, Doss tallied 31 points and 10 rebounds.  In addition, he contributed 3 assists, 2 blocks, and 2 steals.  Women Ameshya Williams , a senior center from Gulfport, MS, had her fourth and fi...

  BCSN RELEASES FIRST REGULAR SEASON POLL, POW HONORS The Black College Sports Network has released its first regular season poll for HBCU Women’s Basketball teams in NCAA Division I and NAIA.   With the exception of Lincoln (MO) and Lincoln (PA), NCAA Division II teams have yet to take the court for the 2020-21 season.   Our NAIA rankings include teams that are classified as CCCAA and USCAA.   The poll is based upon a computer formula that factors in items such as wins, losses, strength-of-schedule, and opponent’s rating.   Games played through Sunday, December 7 are utilized to calculate the rankings.   NCAA Division I is led by North Carolina Central, who defeated Campbell (ranked 278) while losing to North Carolina State (5).   Jackson State has played the toughest schedule of the HBCU women’s teams thus far and comes in at #2 despite losses to two top 100 programs, Mississippi State (17) and Stephen F.   FMU Athletic Director Announces Cancellation of Women’s Soccer, Volleyball By  A.D. Drew , BCSN October 13, 2020 –Earlier today, Florida Memorial University Athletic Director, Ernest T. Jones, issued a statement that the University has cancelled their women’s soccer and volleyball programs for the remainder of the 2020 season. This immediate cancellation came  as a result of feedback from a university survey and conversation with members of both teams and University.     The press release stated that the well-being of our student-athletes, coaches, and athletics staff is the priority. Currently enrolled student-athletes will retain their scholarships through the completion of the academic year if they choose to remain at FMU.     “Based on results from a survey administered to student-athletes and coaches, we feel it is in the best interest of the University to cancel the remainder of the women’s volleyball and soccer season,” Director of Athle...

  FMU Men’s Soccer Coach Resigns Screenshot of text message sent to soccer players By  A.D. Drew , BCSN   October 12, 2020 -  Life at Florida Memorial University (FMU) has been interesting, to say the least, over the past two weeks.  On Friday, October 9, for FMU Head Men’s Soccer Coach, Conner Campbell, decided he could not take it anymore.  That day, he turned in his letter of resignation the athletic department and administration at Florida Memorial.  In a text message sent to his student-athletes, Campbell stated that the staff has been mistreated (especially in the last week) and behind the scene issues that he could no longer deal with.  He also expressed that he was sorry to (resign) mid-season.   The Black College Sports Network reached out to the Florida Memorial University athletic department and they declined to provide a statement regarding Coach Campbell.   Campbell came to the NAIA Florida Memo...

FLORIDA MEMORIAL STUDENTS EXPRESS CONCERNS Students Respond to Athletic Director Ernest Jones Interview –  By  A.D.Drew , BCSN October 12, 2020  - Student-athletes from Florida Memorial University have expressed further concerns and disagreements with comments made by athletic director Ernest T. Jones during an interview with the Black College Sports Network (BCSN) days after initial reports surfaced that the university was not promoting a safe atmosphere following positive COVID-19 tests.  When students returned to school in Miami Gardens, FL in August, some reluctantly, they trusted that their university would ensure their health and safety concerning the COVID-19 virus that has swept the nation.
